Important Notice: Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Although your PC will continue to function, Microsoft will stop providing critical services like security patches and technical assistance that keep your device safe and running smoothly.
Why Business Owners Must Act Now
- Heightened Security Threats: Without ongoing updates, your system becomes increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks, malware, and viruses. Protecting your business data means upgrading to a newer Windows version is essential.
- Software Compatibility Challenges: Many applications are designed for the latest operating systems. Post-Windows 10 support, some programs may malfunction or cease to operate entirely.
- Regulatory Compliance Risks: Businesses handling sensitive data or adhering to strict regulations risk non-compliance by using outdated OS, potentially leading to fines or legal complications.
What Are Your Upgrade Options?
Microsoft recommends upgrading to the latest Windows version before support ends. However, not all Windows 10 devices meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11, and attempting the upgrade on incompatible PCs will result in error messages.
If your device isn't compatible with Windows 11, consider these alternatives:
- Purchase a new PC that supports Windows 11
- Enroll in Extended Security Updates (ESU) to continue receiving security patches
- Switch your operating system from Windows to Linux
- Do not ignore the deadline, as it puts your business at significant risk
Always back up your important files before making any changes to prevent data loss during the upgrade process.
Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10
If upgrading immediately isn't feasible, Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates for one year beyond the end-of-life date. Keep in mind, ESU is a temporary measure, not a permanent fix.
To access ESU, you can pay a $30 fee or redeem 1,000 Microsoft Reward points. Alternatively, a free option exists but requires enabling Windows Backup to sync your settings and files to OneDrive. While OneDrive provides 5 GB free storage, additional space may be necessary for large data volumes.
Register for ESU before October 14 to ensure eligibility.
